Robert Winston (Bob) Stanaway was born 24 December 1912 (Birth Certificate Number ______), in Dargaville. Bob was one of twin sons (Patrick other twin) born the ninth and tenth children of Charles and Elizabeth Stanaway.

Not much is known of his childhood but we can assume it was much the same as his siblings and other children at that time.
