Sarah Pearl Rowlands was born ___________ 1888 in  ______ (Birth Certificate number 1888/11270).  She was the  second child and eldest daughter to Phoebe and Donald Rowlands.

Not much is known of her early childhood other than we could expect that it was the same as her siblings and other children at that time.

We have Sarah’s marriage in ______ 1909 at ________ to David James Young (Marriage Certificate number 1909/7425). David young was the son of David Burne Young of Reefton, and spent his early years on the west coast of the South Island.

Sarah and David have five daughters ____(19__), Phyllis (19__), Mary (19__), Corley (19__), Shirley (19__).

The only record we have of Sarah is from her husbands Obituary – Auckland Star 22 June 1937 which reads;

Mr. D J Young – The death has occurred of Mr. David James Young at his residence, Epsom Auckland. He was a son of the late Mr. David Burne Young of Reefton, mining broker, and spent his early youth on the west coast of the South Island.

At the age of 20 years he commenced in business on his own account in Taranaki, later leaving that district to further his business career in South Australia.

On returning to New Zealand he engaged in business in Te Kuiti and took an active interest in the early development of that town. He was a member of the first borough  council and was a pioneer in installing the electric light there.

In 1909 Mr. Young married Miss Pearl Rowlands, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rowlands, late of Whangarei. On retiring from business in Te Kuiti Mr. young settled in Auckland and during recent years made trips to America and twice to England.

He is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mrs HJ Anthony, (Christchurch), and the Misses Phyllis, Mary, Corley and Shirley Young.

Sarah passes away on _______ 1969, at the age of 81. (Death Certificate number 1969/47730).
